Jon Ruben admitted 17 offences at the judicial center on Friday

An individual who laced candy with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a youth camp in the region has confessed to sexual offences against two boys aged between nine and ten.

The accused was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a young boy.

The accused was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.

The man conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, for good reason.

"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor said materials including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his concerns.

She stated Ruben proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six children that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The prosecutor said the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson notified the police a second time.

She said Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a area of five youngsters.
